MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

Open House: Tuesday, April 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Belgrade Library and Community Center (205 E Main Street)

Voice your thoughts on proposed transportation safety treatments and the Main Street Pedestrian Safety Pilot Project in Belgrade.

The City of Belgrade and project partners thank you for participating in the initial development of the Belgrade Safety Action Plan and providing feedback on transportation safety in the greater Belgrade area.

Based on this information, the team has developed potential roadway safety treatments to address the concerns expressed during the first round of community input. To learn more, the public and media are encouraged to submit comments and are invited to attend an in-person open house and/or a pop-up event at one of the following times/locations:

Pop Up Event: Tuesday,April 29 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Belgrade Library and Community Center (205 E Main Street)

Open House: Tuesday, April 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Belgrade Library and Community Center (205 E Main Street)

At the Open House, the project team will provide information about how feedback received during March 2025 was used to inform potential safety treatments, along with technical information. In addition, the project team will share details on the pilot project programmed for Main Street this summer, which aims to create temporary pedestrian crosswalk and intersection improvements in downtown Belgrade. This is a separate project of the City of Belgrade in partnership with the Montana Department of Transportation with a similar goal of increased safety.

The City of Belgrade was awarded a US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Planning & Demonstration Grant. This funding supports development of a comprehensive, well-defined strategy to prevent roadway fatalities and serious injuries through a Safety Action Plan (SAP) for the Belgrade Planning Area.

Feedback received in the past month on roadways, intersections, pedestrian facilities, sidewalks, trails, and more has directly informed key locations for potential safety treatments. The feedback collected during this round will help refine the recommendations that will be included in the Draft Plan. The Draft Safety Action Plan will be reviewed and finalized by the City of Belgrade and partnering agencies later this spring.

The Safety Action Plan's recommendations will include a toolkit of safety treatments for transportation-related projects within the Belgrade Planning Area. The City of Belgrade will seek short-term and long-term opportunities to implement the Safety Action Plan as funding becomes available. A timeline for funding allocation has not yet been determined, meaning any recommended projects for the Belgrade Planning Area will incrementally take place.
